UGC Directive: Discontinuation of M.Phil. Degree Admissions 2023 in Universities, Best Update Here

UGC Directive:

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a directive, as per Clause 14 of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations 2022, instructing all Higher Educational Institutions to cease the admission process for the Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) program for the academic year 2023-24. This directive comes in response to a few Universities inviting applications for M.Phil. programs despite its non-recognition.

As per a notification, a copy of which lies with Datesheet.in reads, the UGC, in its regulations published in the Gazette of India on 7th November, 2022, clearly outlined in Regulation No. 14 that offering the M.Phil. program is prohibited by Higher Educational Institutions. Consequently, Universities have been urged to take immediate action to halt admissions to the M.Phil. program and adhere to the UGC’s guidelines.

Furthermore, students seeking higher education are strongly advised against enrolling in M.Phil. programs in light of this directive. The UGC emphasizes the need for compliance with the new regulations governing the award of Ph.D. degrees, thereby prompting Universities and aspiring students to align their educational pursuits accordingly.

This announcement serves as a crucial step in ensuring adherence to standardized educational practices in line with the UGC’s updated guidelines, prioritizing the pursuit of academic excellence and streamlined educational pathways. (DS)
